It’s Time! For “El Grito 5k Fun Run/Walk” T-shirts, Burritos, Beer & A Great Time Included

This is by far the the most entertaining 5K run/walk of the the year in Denver. Catch up with old friends and tour the old Auraria neighborhood. The course passes through Ninth Street Historic Park: A preserved block of 13 late-19th-century Victorian homes saved by preservationists that reflects the neighborhood’s multicultural past. A diverse neighborhood (frequently called West Denver) with a large immigrant and Chicano population known as the Westside. (See photos below)

Then runners go past Historic Churches: Landmark religious structures like St. Cajetan’s and Emmanuel Art Gallery (formerly a synagogue) that remain integrated into university grounds. Lindita (founder of Lindita’s Salsa and host of Linda’s Kitchen) warms up the runners with dance, fitness and Zumba before the race. There are several vendors with lots of goodies, awards are given out in various categories, an El Grito shouting contest with the winner receiving a bottle of quality tequila and oh, did I mention, Free Beer! It’s a great way for everyone to celebrate El Grito de Independencia.

The 31st El Grito 5k run, walk, start & finish hosted by MSU Denver 900 Auraria Parkway, Denver, CO 80204. $30 fee. $35 on the day of the race. Raceday will be Sunday, September 13, 2026, 9am start.

14 & under: free but no t-shirt
Regular race registration: $30; must be registered by September 4, 2026 (includes signature Tarahumara/Raramuri-inspired t-shirt & race bib, burrito, beer/hydration beverage)
Students: $20 (receive same as regular)
Raceday registration: $35
Vendor registration: $150… includes 2 race entries, free parking for one vehicle, space in the post race area (must provide own table, tent, chairs), opportunity to promote your product or service to sponsors, other vendors, and race participants; logo/name on website; name on sponsor poster
Sponsorship rates will be negotiated with individuals and/or groups at pricing structures of $250, $500, $750, $1,000 and up.
