A World-Class Celebration of Flamenco Roots and Beginnings, October 1 at the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts, June Swaner Gates Hall. (Tickets)

Flamenco Denver is thrilled to announce its upcoming world-class production, RAICES XI, SIN FRONTERAS, taking the stage this fall. Led and performed by founder and artistic director María Vázquez, this event connects audiences with the profound emotional depth of flamenco through a masterful fusion of explosive dance and soulful music. This production features a distinguished roster of internationally acclaimed guest artists, anchored by Ms. Vázquez and principal dancers Fanny Ara and Carlos Menchaca.

Fanny Ara is one of the most important flamenco performers in the country, recognized globally for her versatile, elegant, and powerful choreography. An international artist who has toured extensively across Canada, South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, Ara has been distinguished as a multi-time nominee for the prestigious Isadora Duncan Dance Awards and a finalist for New York’s Vilcek Foundation “Creative Promise in Dance” prize. Her extensive career includes notable performances with the Washington Opera, at the Davis Symphony Hall, and at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Carlos Menchaca is a celebrated Chicanx dancer and choreographer who blends traditional, avant-garde, and everyday modalities to push artistic boundaries in flamenco. Beginning his training at age nine in Folklórico Mexicano, ballet, and flamenco, he later studied at the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts on scholarship. Menchaca has performed extensively across the United States at venues including The Joyce Theater and The Public Theater in New York City and serves as a core principal dancer for Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, making history as part of the first U.S.-based company featured at the esteemed Festival de Jerez in Spain.

Bringing dynamic group energy and precision to the production is the Flamenco Denver Dance Company, featuring premier company dancers Erika Sandre, Carmen Diaz Sandoval, Mariana Rosario Texera, Natalia Garayoa, and Pilar García.

Joining them on stage are legendary Spanish vocalist Amparo Heredia, premier cantaor José Díaz “Cachito,” and award-winning virtuoso guitarist José Manuel Alconchel. The production is further enriched by the driving rhythms of master cajon player Diego Alvarez “El Negro.” Together, this elite international ensemble blends deep-rooted tradition with modern innovation for an unforgettable, transcendent theatrical experience.

“With RAICES XI, SIN FRONTERAS, this performance honors the foundations of flamenco through dance, music and narrative, while expanding boundaries and pushing artistic limits,” said Ms. Vázquez. “Working with artists of this caliber allows us to develop and experiment with increasingly complex and melodious choreography.”
