Rafael Espinoza Announces Candidacy for North Denver District One, Development disrespectful of the character of Northwest Denver Neighborhood

Rafael Espinoza has announced his candidacy for City Council, District 1. Speaking to
to a standing-room only crowd of supporters at historic Patsy’s Inn in Northwest
Denver.

Espinoza is a professional architect, community representative and 15-year
resident of Jefferson Park. Espinoza declared his primary goal of restoring
responsive, responsible representation to the district.

“My positions will be thoughtful and based on giving an intelligent voice to your
ideas,” Espinoza told the cheering crowd. “You will always know where I stand,
and why. You will always know the facts on which I am basing my positions.
You, your neighbors, and our Northwest Denver neighborhoods will always be
my priority.”

In a District 1 survey conducted in December, 70% of respondents stated they
do not believe they have a voice in City decision-making. It also showed strong
concern about development that residents consider out of scale and often
disrespectful of the character of Northwest Denver Neighborhoods.
“These results are damning for the one-term incumbent,” Espinoza said. “I want
all of us, the community, to have a voice in decisions that concern us. I am
committed to being that voice.”
“As an architect, I am very much in favor of good, smart development. I know
how to work with neighbors, our local businesses, developers and the City to
make that happen,” Espinoza said.
