It’s a roast that makes toast of many your Broadway theatre favorites. Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation is a laugh a minute as this small surprisingly versatile cast takes pot shots at several elaborate productions including The Lion King, West Side Story, Moulin Rouge, Dear Even Hansen, Phantom of the Opera, Beettlejuice, Wicked, Frozen, Fiddler On The Roof, Cats and others.

It’s not just the plays that are made fun of but also some of personalities that accompany them. Everyone is fair game from Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Julie Andrews, Bette Midler and others.
Even set design and elaborate costumes are made fun of. Actors pretend to be on a circling stage disk crashing into one another and Lion King performers grimace in pain caused by the contortions of animal characters they have to play.

If you have enjoyed live theatre over the years Forbidden Broadway will have you thinking twice about all the hoopla you may have fallen for in regard to over the top productions and promotion that have sought to shake you loose of your precious dollars but in the end you may still decide it is still well worth the fun and entertainment.
If you are a younger fan of Broadway or are not familiar with all the plays this production parodies you may have difficult time relating to some of the material and personalities. Still there is enough there to make for an enjoyable night out that will have you want to keep the party going.
Forbidden Broadway plays the Garner Galleria Theatre at the Denver Center for Performing Arts now through January 1, 2023
